This section describes some standards used by Bat Filer.
Diamond mark
----------------
The names of some Bat Filer commands - in menus or in buttons - are preceded by a "diamond" character. An example is the Rename button in the Bat Filer window. This indicates that a command has a different effect if the [Option] key is held down before the command is selected. For commands that affect files in the file list, holding down the [Option] key will cause the command to apply ONLY to those files in the list that have been SELECTED (i.e. highlighted).
Asterisk
---------
The names of some Bat Filer commands end with an asterisk "*". An example is the "Sort by Comment" menu command. This indicates that an operation will require volumes currently off-line (i.e. ejected) to be inserted.
Abort ([Command]-[period])
-----------------------
Some Bat Filer commands can be aborted while they are in progress. These are:
• Set Type/Creator
• Rename Files
• Delete Files
• Move Files
• Copy Files
• Stripping Control Characters
• Merging Text files
• Sorting the File List
Note that this stops the operation IN PROGRESS - whatever part of the operation that is already complete is not cancelled. For example, if you select "Delete Files", then abort in the middle of the delete process, those files deleted so far remain deleted, and cannot be resurrected (at least not by Bat Filer!).
